As soon as they were in the water, they knew this would be a dangerous trip. There were mines in the water for any boat that came through here. They could see them floating near the top. With their night headgear, they could see everything. It took them forty-five minutes to maneuver their way through the bombs and reach the shore, then they slipped out of their scuba gear and went the rest of the way on foot. Kash led the way. Two hours later, they were at the wall. Each one went up and over without making a sound.
They followed Kash to where Alex was held in the hole in the ground. That was precisely what it was, a hole in the ground. Luke put his fingers through the hole in the iron lid. They all worked together as fast as they could. They had the lid off and reached down to pull Alex out when a shadow walked past them. Luke turned and had the man by the throat. Luke never saw the knife that went into his side before he killed the guy. He didnât say a word to his buddies. They had to get the hell out of there before the other guards wondered where the guard was. Austin threw Alex over his shoulder, and they all left as one.
They were almost to the boat when the alarm went up. Luke could feel himself getting weak. He was losing a lot of blood. Hopefully, there were no sharks in the area. It took some doing for Luke to keep up with the others, but he managed until it was time to climb into the boat. He couldnât pull himself into the boat. Austin and Jag grabbed his arm and pulled. They were far out to sea, and still, no one talked. Voices carried on the water. Alex hit them a few times on the back to show how excited he was. He stared at his brother, who hugged him at least ten times.
Jag reached over and took his brotherâs hand. âAlex, Iâm damn glad youâre alive. Do you want to call your wife and children? Weâll leave you alone.â
âThanks Jag, I would like that. Can you call Mom and Dad?â
âYeah, Iâll call them.â Jag picked up his phone and made a call. âHi, Dad.â
âJag, how are you, son?â
âIâm great. I have some news for you.â
âDo you? I hope itâs good news.â
âItâs the best news,â he choked up, talking to his dad. So he cleared his throat. âDad, we just rescued Alex. He was being held prisoner in Iran. Heâs on the phone with Tammy right now. Weâll see you in a couple of days.â
âWhat?â his dad was crying.
âIâll ask him to call you when heâs finished talking to Tammy and the kids. I love you, Dad.â
âI love you, son. Iâm going to go tell your mother the wonderful news.â His father was crying and could barely get the words out.
Jag saw Alex and Luke talking. He walked over to them.
